The Staffordshire Record Office is currently closed whilst building works commence on the new Staffordshire History Centre. This includes the William Salt Library and archives.
Updates will be posted on social media and on the Staffordshire History Centre website, link is here Link to updates: Staffordshire History Centre website and their Twitter feed.
There is also a virtual tour comparing the William Salt Library before it was emptied and put into storage, accessed via Youtube here https://youtu.be/1uY2f9bqSaQ
Staffordshire History Centre will be an exciting new development. However, with physical access within the archives at Stafford not being possible whilst the building work continues, the use of online resources will be the only way to view documents.
Online sources for Staffordshire include Staffordshire Past Track
If you are unsure what the online documents are that are held within subscription sites such as Findmypast, Ancestry, and The Genealogist, then please do get in touch as I have full access to these sites including the 1921 census.
Local archives are still open within Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Shropshire and Cheshire, and North Wales (Wrexham) along with Family History Libraries within the wider Birmingham area. Online catalogues will give an idea if any documents you are searching for are deposited, even for Staffordshire.
